Lucky to Meet You in My Second Venture

I entered Tongwang Institute directly in April 2016 after retiring from the army after 21 years of service. Although I had obtained the qualification of military lawyer before, I was mainly engaged in management work. At nearly forty years old, my life trajectory took a big turn. Simply put, I became Party B from Party A. Choosing to engage in legal work was my long-term goal, but the decision to leave the system and go to society was made in just two and a half hours. As for what the lawyer's work is like, although there are precedents of successful transformation of senior sisters, to be honest, I have no idea in my mind. Although the work place has changed from 15 Wangyuan Road to Dongge Wangyuan Road intersection 200 meters away, and the office environment is not worse than before, the psychological gap is still not small. Just from a familiar environment, colleagues who get along day and night ask for instructions in the morning and report in the evening, and the work is easy to do, sitting on a small booth for a day and no one pays attention to it, watching the handsome men and beautiful women around me keep busy, I don't know what to do. What is particularly embarrassing is that a new person of my age can't get big things, and others are embarrassed to call for small things. It is true that I feel like I am living like a year. Fortunately, after a brief period of confusion, I put down my past experiences and regarded myself as a middle-aged college student who had just entered society. If I had nothing to do, I would read books and cases, and if I had the opportunity, I would learn and ask more questions. You can do what others don't understand for a while, but the attitude of wanting to do things can still be felt. This is the truth in doing things and being a person. If you really integrate into the unit and set yourself a good position, opportunities will naturally come.
I remember in the middle of 2016, my senior sister and her master were preparing to open a court session for a case of bribery by a county party secretary. Before that, I borrowed the case file from her to read it myself, and told my senior sister that I would attend the hearing so that I could have a deeper learning effect. But unfortunately, the day before the trial, I was arranged to go to Pingxiang and Longzhou with the United Front Work Department to carry out legal publicity activities. In order to attend the trial and not delay the task, my colleagues and I temporarily adjusted the arrangements, and I first completed the publicity in Pingxiang and returned early. It was already after 8 o'clock when I finished my work that day. I hadn't taken a bus for more than ten years. I took the last bus from Pingxiang back to Nanning and it was almost 12 o'clock. The next morning, I took a train from Nanning to Liuzhou at 7 o'clock and finally met my senior sister and her master at the gate of the Intermediate People's Court. When I learned that I had borrowed the case file in advance to study it myself, and also changed my itinerary to rush from Pingxiang to attend the hearing, my senior sister's master immediately stated that he would take me to do cases together if he had the opportunity in the future. This was not just a casual remark. On the third day, I got a set of case materials from him, so I had the first case, then the second, the third... My senior sister's master also became my master. Under his guidance, I was rated as the first batch of criminal professional lawyers by the Guangxi Lawyers Association, became a partner of the law firm, and served as the director of the tax-related legal affairs department.
I came to Tongwang. From a new lawyer who was worried, to finding my own professional direction and determined to make a difference in the professional field, I am very grateful to Tongwang Institute for giving me such a platform. It is in this big family that I have seen the successful experiences of many lawyers, and I am even more fortunate to see that professionalism is the only choice to win long-term development. I would also like to share my inspiration and feelings.
1. Attitude is very important to get things done
Jack Ma once said in an interview: My most regrettable mistake was in 2001. I told my 18 co-founders that they could only be team managers, and all vice presidents had to be hired from outside. More than ten years have passed, and the talents I hired from outside have left, and those whose abilities I had doubted before have become vice presidents or directors. I believe in two creeds: attitude is more important than ability, and choice is also more important than ability!
I remember not long after I came to the institute, I kept reading the growth experiences of some lawyers. Among them, an article by the director of a law firm gave me a lot of inspiration. This article entitled "Specialization, from Need to Pursuit" shows the growth trajectory of lawyer Xiao Cuiping of Xinjiang Dingxin Law Firm. Her persistent attitude supports her to this day. No matter how others judge her, from the perspective of her own life, she is undoubtedly successful.
So what should I do if I want to achieve something in my second venture? So I constantly remind myself to stay clear in three aspects: First, I must have a continuous learning attitude, and I must have a learning goal. I consider myself to be a person who is not smart but hardworking. After graduating from military school, I basically did not give up learning, and my scores in previous promotion training exams were among the best. Although I developed very smoothly in the army, I realized early on that I would have to leave the army sooner or later to engage in administration, and I had to accumulate myself for future development. To this end, I went to take the postgraduate entrance examination in the army, obtained a master's degree in law, passed the judicial examination, obtained the intermediate law enforcement qualification certificate and internal audit qualification certificate of the people's police, and obtained the qualification of military lawyer. It is precisely because of continuous learning in the army that I have opened a door for my current career and have the opportunity to work hard for this career. After entering the law firm, I also insisted on taking learning as an important task. In the first three years, I obtained the qualification of tax agent, and in the fourth and fifth years, I passed all four exams for the qualification of asset appraiser. In recent years, I have spent a lot of time and money every year to participate in professional training all over the country. At the same time, I also constantly consolidate my learning results by writing official account articles. It can be said that the attitude of continuous learning is the key to supporting me to go steady and far on the road of specialization.
The second is to take every job seriously, do what you want to be like, and have a responsible attitude. If you are given a job, even if it is a small thing, even if it is not important or inconspicuous, you must keep it in mind and strive to complete it well. Treat new tasks as learning opportunities, watch, ask and think more; treat old jobs as opportunities to produce high-quality products, strive to achieve the ultimate, and become a model. The third is to have a humble attitude. There must be a teacher among three people. Whether it is to leaders, colleagues, peers or customers, you must have a humble attitude and be good at finding highlights in others. You can't be complacent if you have a little success, that will only make you stop moving forward. Not to mention that you are still a novice, even if you are an old hand, you must know the truth that there are stronger players among the strong.
2. Don't be fickle after making a choice
Choice is a decision made for yourself. Whether it is an active or passive choice, first of all, we must have a basic judgment on the background of making the decision, which is related to the result of the choice.
I chose tax-related profession as the direction of career development, mainly based on the following ideas: First, the strategy of governing the country according to law provides new development opportunities for the development of the cause. With the continuous and in-depth promotion of the strategy of comprehensively governing the country according to law, governing taxation according to law and controlling taxation by information are being carried out in full swing. In future tax-enterprise disputes, the traditional relationship theory has become increasingly diluted in the context of legalization and informationization, and the voice of professionals is becoming increasingly important.
Secondly, the involution situation in the legal market forces us to develop in the direction of specialization in order to have a future. As my master said: If in the past ten years, or in the past twenty years, lawyers relied on individual combat and all-purpose exploration, if in the past most of them relied on relationships to obtain case sources and relied on relationships to handle cases, the dividends obtained in the past, that is, in the development of the lawyer system is not very perfect, the construction of the rule of law is not very sound, people's awareness of lawyers is not very high, and the business of lawyers is generally not very specialized, the dividends formed by these lawyers in carrying out business will gradually disappear. Then the real cruel competition in the lawyer industry, the survival of the fittest, will be very prominent.
Thirdly, personal age, experience and resources do not allow for slow exploration and selection. After all, a person's energy and time are limited, and being a polymath is just a beautiful dream. Only by devoting oneself wholeheartedly to a career can one achieve something; changing one's mind frequently and doing things in a haphazard way will not lead to success. Dedication is not only about being responsible for one's own choices, but also about being responsible for the career one has chosen.
Third, a good platform is a sunny avenue
I came to the Tongwang family in April 2016 and truly integrated into it. I found that Tongwang has a good tradition of old leading new, a harmonious atmosphere of unity and cooperation, and an excellent law firm brand accumulated and built in the Guangxi legal community for 25 years. Growing up in such an environment, the conditions can be described as very superior. More fortunate is to meet the leadership of the firm to support us to show our talents, there is a group of expert lawyers who teach and teach, and a group of talented partners, working in this platform, pleasing to the eye, is a rare and valuable opportunity in my life, which also makes me more determined to develop the business to a higher level.
5 years ago, the director of our firm, Guang Ge, without ever meeting me, just listened to my senior sister: Liao Jun, the director of the comprehensive department of the Liao Chu, who is known as the Liao Chu, introduced me in a few words, and left a sentence "I am relieved that you came out of the army, come here!" So I gave up the idea of continuing to develop in the army and embarked on the road of practicing law. Although there is very little business intersection in peacetime, and the number of times I have been to his office is very few, and I have never even invited a meal in private, Guang Ge has given strong support not only to me, but also to the lawyers in the firm who want to make a career. I remember when the tax department was established, I was hesitant about whether it could be done because there were few professionals, but Guang Ge told the story of his daring to fight when he was young, saying that as long as you have ideas and confidence, the Tongwang platform will give you the greatest support, even if there is only one person, you can rest assured to dance! My master: Huang Yuhua, director of the Tongwang Expert Advisory Committee, is a senior criminal defense lawyer, but he does not limit me to take the criminal road, but also encourages me to take the tax specialization. He once said to me: To become an excellent professional lawyer, you need your own unremitting efforts and love for the profession and professional dedication, coupled with the spirit of the team and the wisdom of the public, the Tongwang platform is your best backing.
I remember a funny picture: a van is hanging on a tree, and the explanatory text is that Bentley rear-ended the van, and the van jumped on the tree. How high you can fly does not depend on you, but on how strong the pusher behind you is. Although this passage makes people laugh, the text contains a real truth.
