The Guangxi Tongwang Institute of Applied Law, initiated by the Guangxi Tongwang Law Firm and backed by renowned universities within and outside the region, including the Law School of Wuhan University, the Law School of Guangxi University, and the Law School of Guangxi Normal University, was established in January 2016 with the approval of the Guangxi Department of Justice and the Department of Civil Affairs. It is the first and currently the only private institute of applied law in China with independent legal status. In July 2018, the Tongwang Institute became a full member of the "Guangxi Characteristic New Think Tank Alliance," spearheaded by the Policy Research Office of the Guangxi Autonomous Region Party Committee and the Development Research Center of the Guangxi Autonomous Region Government. Guangxi Local Legislation Research Evaluation and Consulting Service Tongwang Institute Base was approved by the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in May 2018. It is a specialized institution engaged in local legislation research, evaluation and consulting services. It is the first local legislation research evaluation and consulting service base established by a provincial people's congress in a law firm in China. In October 2020, the Standing Committee of the Nanning Municipal People's Congress approved the establishment of the Nanning Municipal Local Legislation Research Evaluation and Consulting Service Tongwang Institute Base.
